Camp Thurman
is a wonderful place to work, and we are delighted that you are
interested in becoming a part of this exciting ministry. Since
the summer of 1969, many young people have played an important role
in this camp.
If you are new
or returning, there are some things you need to know. As a
staff, we have three different levels. . . CITs, Assistant
Counselors, and Senior Counselors. You are applying to become
a Counselor-in-Training (CIT). This summer, we will hire 126
people to fill our CIT positions, approximately 63 young women and
63 young men. 95% of these positions are filled from two
categories: returning CITs and graduates of the 2009 CIT-IT
Training Camp. The remaining 5% may be selected from new
applicants who do not fit either of the above categories.
With this
limited number, it is very important that you submit your
application in a timely manner. Since the majority of
training and workdays are in March and April,
your application must be submitted online by February 19th. This gives us time to
make our selections and notify the folks we want to hire. We
will notify you in writing by March 16th if you are
hired.
Some important
points . . .
First,
there are several parts to your application, including a general information
sheet, training date choices, a written interview, references and a medical
form. Your parents can help you with all of the
pages except the WRITTEN INTERVIEW. That page needs to be
in your own words; otherwise, we
may feel you are not ready to accept the responsibility of a CIT
position.
Secondly,
the application form asks for weeks in the summer you will be
available. We know many family vacations, church retreats, and
other summer plans have not been made, so fill in the area to the
best of your ability. We will finalize weeks when you get your
contract. Remember, most first and second year CITs are
hired for approximately 2-3 weeks, so this is not a commitment of
your time for the entire summer.
Thirdly,
please check your calendar. On our
Staff Forms
page you'll find an easy reference sheet of the training dates, work
days, and picture/discipleship day. You must be able to make
these days for us to have you as a part of the staff.
Unfortunately, there is no way to select dates that work for
everyone, so we have scheduled in training date options.
However, you must make them a priority. It may mean
that you have to make some difficult choices between giving up Camp
Thurman for this summer or giving up your other commitments.
That choice is up to you, and we will respect your decision.
Camp Nicknames:
If you are a new CIT applicant, be sure to read the info about
nicknames and then go online at the
Staff Forms
page to check out whether your name choice is taken.
Hope this
answers your questions. We do ask that all communication and
correspondence be made by you as the perspective employee and not
by other family members. We consider this part of our
ministry as a training opportunity, and we want you to develop job
skills that will serve you in the future. Again, we are
excited about the summer and how God will use each of us to make a
difference in the lives of the campers.
