Camper Parents share their thoughts!
We have two children
who attended this past week. We wanted to share with your how
much we appreciate all you and your staff do at Camp Thurman.
Our daughter was in
Quack's group. She came home with a huge smile every day
talking 90 mph about all she did throughout the day and how much she
loved her counselor and CIT. She can't wait to come back next
year and included all her tribe-mates and counselors in her prayers
at dinner and bedtime and cried today on the way home because she
was going to miss camp so much.
Our son had Pongo and
Bluetooth. On Tuesday he said in the car ride on the way home
that he "never-ever wanted to go to school again and wanted to go to
Camp Thurman every single day of he entire life". He also
wants to live with Pongo. He was extremely enthusiastic about
every day and anxiously anticipated going to camp every morning.
He would wake up at 7 am asking, "Is it time for Camp Thurman, yet,
mom?" Brandon is the oldest in our house, so he doesn't have
an older brother to "look up to", but Pongo was that someone this
year. . . thank you to Pongo!
. . . I can't imagine
the monumental task you and the staff must have yearly of selecting
the CREAM OF THE CROP in teenagers, but you do successfully and, as
I'm sure you don't need me to tell you, but this is your Calling.
These counselors year after year help these kids learn so much and
are a blessing to all the campers, but is is with your guidance that
they are able to do what they do so well.
These counselors are
all angels with wings, and we can't wait for next year!
Blessings!

My daughter's
third week of Camp Thurman (once each year for three years) is
coming to a close. This morning she said, "I can't believe
camp is almost over" with a heavy, sad sigh. My daughter is,
by nature, somewhat reserved and cautious and not always willing to
try new things. Your camp theory of letting kids decide the
activities they will try or not try is "Just what the Dr. ordered"
as far as developing her personality and also promoting trust in
others and respect. Each year she goes, she tries newer and
higher things. She feels safe, respected and is learning she
CAN do new things, while also growing and knowing that her
boundaries will be respected. She loves that CT counselors
actually PLAY with the kids.
Anyway, I say
all this to say thanks and to encourage and bless your staff to keep
doing what they are doing. Someday when they are parents they
will truly understand the significance of a place like CT and will
want a similar place for their children to go: where the teenagers
are people to look up to and learn from; where they learn and grow
and try new things and blessings and Bible truths are taught AND
shown by the counselors.
