Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Matthew 28:19-20 NIV

This is Bonanza’s ninth summer working at Camp Thurman and her fifth year being a counselor. She went every year she could as a day camper, then continued to go to camp as a night camper, and then went straight in to working at Camp Thurman and has been there ever since.

Bonanza graduated from Texas Tech University December 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies and Minor in Spanish. She is interested in learning how humans develop across their lifespan as well as learning about how families are formed and how they function. She now plans to attend graduate school to fulfill a master’s in marriage and family counseling. She is passionate about helping people, doing mission work, helping the community, and doing outreach. She is so excited to see where the Lord is leading her and how He is using her to make an impact and further His Kingdom.

Bonanza recently completed a 300 hour internship at Buckner Children and Family Services in Lubbock, Texas. She served youth aging out of the foster care system by providing life skills classes, performing intake, assessment, and transition planning and care coordination for foster youth, and data entry. She also did some fundraising and outreach for Buckner, planned and obtained gifts to fulfill Christmas wish lists of children and families in the system, created flyers for events, managed new interns to program, and wrote a 530 page intern manual.

Bonanza loves working at Camp Thurman because she loves the outdoors, encouraging campers to try new things, challenging campers to go deeper in their faith, and helping kids have the time of their lives while learning about Jesus. She is really excited to meet your camper and she will make sure they have an amazing week!
