The fee for this leadership training is $270.
What to look for this year
- The registration date will correspond with the opening of regular registration for Summer Camp, October 15th.
- The grade level requirement is entering 9th grade in the Fall of 2016.
- There will be only one CIT-IT camp for the 2016 season.
Should I register for this camp?
This camp will include time at our away camp in Gainesville and additional time at the CT campgrounds. You must commit to attend the 3 days/2 nights away and the 2 days at camp to register for one of these camps and to be considered for a staff position the following year. If you are not able to attend all 5 days, please do not register for one of these camps. Another restriction is that by summer 2016 you must have just finished 8th grade.
How does this work?
Training camp will begin on Saturday afternoon. You will meet at the CT campgrounds and be transported to Lone Oak Retreat Center in Gainesville, TX. You'll spend Saturday and Sunday nights there and then return Monday evening to the campgrounds.
Then on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday you will work as a staff assistant in both group and activity positions. You will work side-by-side with a staff person to be a servant to the campers. Both the away camp and the workdays at CT will be fun days. The days away will allow you to learn the team concept necessary to be a good leader and the workdays will give you a realistic view of staff responsibilities. Next year, you may apply and be considered for a paid position on our staff for 2017.
Why should I attend this camp?
Each summer we hire 100 folks to fill our CIT (Counselor in Training) positions, and the majority of these positions are filled from our returning CIT applicants and Leadership Training Camp graduates. As you know, many of our present counselors began their careers at Camp Thurman as CITs.
How do I register for this camp?

If you want to download a hard copy form from the website you can or pick up a form at the camp beginning Oct. 1st and mail or bring to the office on or after Oct. 15th. Complete and send the registration form, medical history, and a $270 registration fee to Camp Thurman.
What does this include?
The $270 fee includes your transportation, overnight accommodations, meals at the away camp, and a T-shirt designed especially for Leadership Camp attendees. Please note that we are limiting the enrollment, and the camp will be filled on a first-come basis.
Some years the camps are filled in just one day, but never more than a couple of days, so register early!
