Applications
for Assistants, CITs, and Counselors
are no longer being accepted for this year.
______________________________________________________________________________
The counselors, assistant counselors, and CITs
(counselors-in-training) are the heart of Camp Thurman. Many of our counselors began their
relationship with the camp as campers themselves. The times they shared here were
memorable and meaningful enough that they wanted to
continue their involvement with the
camp as leaders. This tradition is an important part of Camp Thurman. Some of the
counselors of the past years have gone into full-time Christian service; others have moved
on to become leaders in the community. More and more are establishing
their Christian homes and bringing their children to camp.
Each summer the Lord continues to bring us committed young people to serve as role models,
motivators, and group leaders. Qualifications, background, and pastor recommendations for
staff members are carefully checked, and counselors are chosen based on their ability to
work
with children successfully, their commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ, and their
willingness to
follow the camp procedures necessary to provide a safe, fun, wholesome
outdoor experience
for our campers. Confidential background checks are required.
For Camp Thurman 2009 we had 90
counselors, 80 assistant counselors, and 125 CITs. The
Administrative Staff consists of the camp director (Jim Rose), the director's assistant
(Glenda Keilstrup), the camp administrator (Kristin Kimmell), our
team challenge director (Cindy Hatchell),
our site director (Blake Bowman), and community outreach director
(Mary Hibbs).
First Counselor Retreat 2010
30 counselors and 5 administrative staff members spent the last three
days at Camp Thurman for the first counselor retreat of the 2010
season. Great weather and a great counselor staff made the
time together especially enjoyable and profitable. What
a delight to be able to share in preparation for the upcoming summer
camp season! More photos
