Dear Camp Thurman Families,
We wanted to let you know that the Camp Thurman staff are praying that you and your loved ones are staying healthy during this current COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak. We are grateful for the assurance and comfort that comes from our faithful and loving God who holds the whole world in His hands.
In times of uncertainty, it is easy to be overwhelmed with fear or make quick uninformed decisions—we do not intend to be fearful or uninformed. As of right now, we look forward to our regularly scheduled summer camp programming. It would not be prudent to cancel programs for June in March, as we have no real idea how long this outbreak might last. We are dealing with something unprecedented and unpredictable. Any adjustments to our summer schedule are anticipated to be made in mid-May. This timeline will allow us to make a more informed decision based on the facts at that time.
We are in communication with and abide by the Tarrant County Health Department’s direction regarding the most current counsel and advice. As of right now, we have cancelled our daily Challenge Adventure days for March and April. Staff that are able to work from home are doing so, while other onsite personnel required for facility management and make ready are well spaced out on the property as we attend to the job of getting CT ready for the campers this summer!
As we seek to serve the Lord and His people during this challenging time, we are implementing extra safety measures to protect those we serve, as well as our staff and volunteers. While there is no known direct contact with the virus at our camp, we have implemented the following measures in compliance with the Tarrant County Health Department and the Center for Disease Control.
High contact surfaces such as doorknobs, tables, light switches, faucets and handles will be disinfected multiple times a day when guests are in attendance. In addition to our regular thorough cleaning, we are asking staff, guests, and campers to wash their hands often for 20 seconds or more and will make available hand sanitizer. Common areas and bathrooms will be disinfected hourly. The water jugs around camp are already disinfected nightly, however paper cups will be provided at these stations this summer so that re-use of un-sanitized water bottles is eliminated.
We will inform you immediately if things change regarding our summer schedule. The safety and well being of your children and our staff have and always will be our main priority. We are praying for a quick end to this season of sickness and uncertainty. We, like your kids, will be very ready to get outside and play again!
In His Service,
Blake “Buck” Bowman
