Should I register for this camp?

This camp will include time at our away camp in Denton and additional time at the CT campgrounds.  You must commit to attend the 3 days/2 nights away and the 2 days at camp to register for one of these camps and to be considered for a staff position  the following year.  If you are not able to attend all 5 days, please do not register for this camp.  Another restriction is that by summer 2017 you must have just finished 8th grade.

Why should I attend this camp?

Each summer we hire 100 folks to fill our CIT (Counselor in Training) positions, and many of these positions are filled from our Leadership Training Camp graduates.  As you know, many of our present counselors began their careers at Camp Thurman as CITs.

When is this leadership training?

CIT-IT Camp will be from June 17-22, 2017. Hours are from 3pm Saturday to 6pm Monday at away-camp, and Tues, Wed and Thurs on Camp Thurman campgrounds, from 7:30am to 4:30 pm.

What do I bring?

How much does the CIT-IT Camp cost?

The fee for this leadership training is $290.

How does this work?

Training camp will begin on Saturday afternoon. You will meet at the CT campgrounds and be transported to Camp Copass in Denton, TX. You’ll spend Saturday and Sunday nights there and then return Monday evening to the campgrounds.

Then on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday you will work as a staff assistant in both group and activity positions. You will work side-by-side with a staff person to be a servant to the campers. Both the away camp and the workdays at CT will be fun days. The days away will allow you to learn the team concept necessary to be a good leader and the workdays will give you a realistic view of staff responsibilities. Next year, you may apply and be considered for a paid position on our staff for 2018.

What does this include?

The $290 fee includes your transportation, overnight accommodations, meals at the away camp, and a T-shirt designed especially for Leadership Camp attendees.  Please note that we are limiting the enrollment, and the camp will be filled on a first-come basis.

Some years the camps are filled in just one day, but never more than a couple of days, so register early!

This camp will be a very exciting time, filled with days and evenings of group play and competition as well as hours of hands-on learning!   If you have any further questions, please feel free to call the camp office at (817) 274-8441 or email our CIT Coordinator Cindy “Hummer” Hatchell at
